Why Your Dentist May Recommend Invisalign

Why Your Dentist May Recommend Invisalign

by Natalie (SU)
It is important to get the most out of your Invisalign treatment, in order to have the straight teeth and beautiful smile that you want and deserve. If you’ve had an exam and consultation with your dentist, and they have decided that Invisalign rather than traditional metal braces are the right fit, you still need to follow the right steps to get everything you can out of the treatment. This includes taking care of the aligners and keeping them safe from anything that could damage them, and using them on a full-time basis when you are supposed to be wearing them, so your teeth do not revert back to their old positions.

Biting into something hard such as candy or ice, grinding your teeth (bruxism), eating and drinking hot and cold things back and forth, accidentally hitting your tooth on a hard surface, or having an accident such as falling off your bike, are all reasons why someone could crack or chip their teeth. Teeth can crack or break due to a wide variety of causes, and it is always a frightening experience. In such an alarming situation, it’s good to know what to do when you have a chip or cracked tooth.

Seeing Your Dentist About Straightening Your Teeth with Invisalign

In 1997, Align Technology, today known as Invisalign, was born, thanks to the idea of Stanford University students Zia Chishti, Kelsey Wirth, Apostolos Lerios and Brian Freyburger. Chishti was at the orthodontist getting his braces removed, and afterwards was given a retainer to keep his teeth straight and from moving. When Zia received his retainer, he realized that a retainer similar to his might be just as effective straightening teeth as a set of traditional metal braces. The idea came after seeing how painful and unattractive metal braces actually were. He thought to himself about how he could possibly develop a better, quicker, and less painful way to get straighter teeth, and another form of dental alignment technology was born.

From a young age, we have heard everyone say things like “drinking your milk and eating your fruits and vegetables will help you grow up to be big and strong”. Well, the same thing goes for visiting the dentist. Regular visits to a dentist are a crucial part of helping a child grow up healthy and strong, to develop healthy, strong teeth. Unfortunately, though, children aren't always so receptive to the idea, sometimes seeing a visit to the dentist as a very scary experience.

Seeing Your Dentist if Your Child's Teeth are Not Falling Out

“My tooth is loose!” When a child’s tooth becomes loose for the first time, it represents a huge milestone in their lives. It is exciting, because losing a tooth is associated with the tooth fairy, and of course means that they are growing up. In other words, when your child loses their first tooth, it is almost like a rite of passage, or an honor to get a visit from the tooth fairy. As a parent, you will be able to cherish this moment in your child’s life forever. However, if it seems like their baby teeth are hanging on for too long, parents can become concerned that something might not be quite right.
